Welcome to Year 1!
30.6.16 - Today we have been learning to tell the time to the hour and half past the hour. We have been practically telling the time using the clocks, working in pairs. We then tested each other by giving our partner a time to show on the clock.
Next week (13.6.16-17.6.16) Year One will be having their Phonics Check.
Please help practise the sounds with your children over the weekend (we are sending them home in their homework pack) and please make sure that they are well rested and ready for a busy, working week next week.

Today (10.6.16) we have been celebrating the Queen's birthday.
We learnt about Britain and the royal family; in computing we learnt how to use copy and paste to find pictures of the Queen throughout history, we made cards for the Queen and we tried our hardest to learn the British national anthem. We've had a really fun day as you can see from the pictures.
10.6.16 - Today we had non uniform day where we had to wear red to help raise money for the Anton Reid foundation.

Year 1 went on a trip to the farm on Wednesday 11th May 2016
In literacy this term we have been learning about the story Farmer Duck.
We have used this topic and linked it to our trip to the farm.
Some children met Icky the barn owl and some of them were able to hold him. They also experienced feeding the farm animals.
This is what some of the children thought of the trip.

Phonics with Mrs Begum on 13th May 2016
Children from year 1 have been introduced to split diagraphs.
Mrs G begum showed some examples of words with split diagraphs and then the children worked in groups of three to come up with more real and alien words with split diagraphs. They enjoyed using the chalks on coloured paper. They also came up with lots of words that they thought of independently.
On friday the children in 1SD enjoyed fun book friday. They listened to the story 'Zoe and Beans Where is Binky Boo?' The children predicted what will happen next and they asked questions. 16-05-16
25.04.16 In year 1 the children have been working in different ways to work out the number bonds to 20.
15.04.16 Today the children brought a selection of books from home for Fun Book Friday. The children enjoyed listening to the stories and their favourite story was 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.
This afternoon the children have been working with mrs Begum saying the Phonic sounds. They also wrote in the missing sounds in the words and coloured the picture they all enjoyed it. 15-04-16
Today the children have been counting on with Mrs Begum. They were finding different number bonds using coloured teddies. They all worked as a group and used there skills to work together. 15-04-16
World Book Day in Year 1!
During World Book Day our theme was 'A Bedtime Story'. We all came to school in our pyjamas and Mrs Davies shared her favourite story with us! Then we went to (pretend) sleep!!!
After our story and sleep, we had a teddy bears picnic just like Baby Bear does in the story 'Whatever Next!' by Jill Murphy. Our teddies really liked eating apples!
After our picnic we had too much fun role playing different parts of the story, creating new books covers for the book and playing with our teddies! What a fantastic day!!!
1.3.16 - Today Year 1 went to a multiskills P.E competition. Take a look at the pictures!

This half term Year 1 are learning about space... We have had some scary alien visitors in our classrooms!!!

29.2.15 This week we are trying really hard to learn our new story map for 'Bob - The Man on the Moon'. Here are some of the conjuctions that we are learning to use in our sentences.
Zulqarnain is showing us the action for 'and'.

29.2.16 Today in Numeracy we started to look at missing number calculations. We used a human numberline to help us solve these problems. Look at how much fun we had!!!
26.2.16 - Today some adults from the Birmingham Royal Ballet company came to teach year one some dance. We even met a real ballerina!

Year 1 Fun Book Friday
The children chose the Red Riding Hood Story
Today Mrs Begum did fun book Friday with 1SD. The children bought in there favourite books to share with the rest of the children and they all chose one book that they wanted Mrs Begum to read to them. They all enjoyed the story and joined in with reading the story.
Today the children have been adding using cubes with Mrs Begum. They enjoyed adding up using the cubes and working together. All the children used their fine motor skills to pick up the cubes and their pencils and pencil grip.
The children have been looking at how to solve addition and subtraction problems, using a number line and a 100 square. Use our Steps To success to help your child at home.
03.02.16 - This week in year 1 the children have been learning the names of 3d shapes and their properties. Please use this image to help your child at home.
Remember Year 1 are having a reading workshop on Thursday 28th January 2016 at 9:00am. It is really important that you attend to work with your child, and find out a bit more about how reading is taught in school. We are currently reading a story all about a pirate adventure. We have also created a new reading area to encourage the children to develop a love for reading. As well as this the children can go on their own adventures in our desert island role play area. Take a look at our pictures below!

FUN BOOK FRIDAY!!!
On our first ever 'Fun Book Friday' 2 children from 1SD chose their favourite book from home to bring in and share with their friends. Aysha wanted to share 'Splat the Cat'. We liked this book because the cat went to school for the first time and had a few funny catastrophies whilst he was there. Mahir wanted to share his favourite comic with everyone. We looked at every page and enjoyed all the cool pictures. Then we read one of the short stories from the comic and enjoyed making all the sounds to match the actions in the pictures!
9.11.15- This week in year 1 we have been looking at how to halve. You can also help your child by following the steps below:

4. 11.15 - Today we went on a local walk down to Stratford road and to Farm park. In literacy we will be writing setting descriptions. On our walk we thought about all of the things we could see, hear and feel.
04.11.15 - In year 1 we have been looking at the properties of 2d shapes. You can use this to help your child at home.
23.10.15 - Well done to Shayma, Afreen, Areeba, Ayaan, Luqmaan and Tanha (1LA) for bringing their homework in every week. These children have received the homework award! Well done!
It's half term already, the time has gone by so quickly and the children have made a great start settling into their new classes and new routines.
A quick reminder that all year 1 children will bring home a half term homework pack on Friday 23rd October. The pack includes some fun activities that you can do with your child. The homework activities given are to support your child when they return to school after half term.
If you are looking for activities to do during the holidays, you could try finding and naming 2d and 3d shapes around the house and describing the different places that you visit during the holidays.
We hope you all have a great half term and stay safe from the Year 1 team.
The children in both classes have helped their teachers to come up with the steps to success for addition and subtraction. You can use these with your child at home to help them with their work.
5.10.15 - 9.10.15 - This week in numeracy we have been learning about addition. We have been adding two numbers together in fun and practical ways!
1.10.15 - In topic we have been classifying animals. We know about the different groups 'Amphibians, reptiles, fish, birds, insects and mammals'. We can also name different animals that belong in these groups!
30.9.15 - In topic today we have been making our own skeletons! Some of us painted skeletons and some of use made them using cotton buds!

I want a pet - The children in year 1 are learning how to describe. To help us do this we have learnt a story called 'I want a pet.' The story is about a little girl who wants a pet. She describes all the pets she really wants and then gets an egg. We wonder what's inside the egg? This story map reminds us how to retell the story. Ask your child if they can retell the story at home.
