Home Learning Letter

Dear parents and carers

We hope this letter finds you all safe and well. Before the weekend we would like to update you on the following:

Home Learning reassurance

Thank you for all of the positive feedback we have received from the families we’ve been in contact this week about the home learning support we are providing. We are grateful for your feedback and continued support during this difficult situation.

We would also like to take this opportunity to ease some of the worry that we are aware is out there regarding home learning- in our own school community as well as across the country as a whole. There is no expectation on you, as parents, to try and replicate the work of teachers in school. The Department for Education stresses this in their advice to parents about supporting children’s learning at home (see our Home Learning page for the guidance) and we whole heartedly support this.

You have an extremely challenging job at the moment. Having your children at home- keeping them safe, happy and well- alongside looking after yourself and often extended family members too. The vast majority of you are also fasting.

We are sending out activities and resources to support all children with the learning they are able to manage whilst at home. We recognise that this will differ for every family and understand that the children will not (and should not) be carrying out a full day of learning as they would be at school. Do the best that you can in your own personal circumstances.

Year Group pages on the website

A quick reminder to check your child’s year group page on the school website on a weekly basis. Class teachers are uploading additional resources on there to support learning at home and give you further activity ideas if you would like them.

Home learning email accounts

We have now created email accounts for each class so the children can send photographs and examples of their home learning into school to share with their class teacher. We hope that this will help your children to continue to feel part of their class and feel connected with their teacher.

The accounts have been set up purely for work sharing purposes. Class teachers will endeavour to email you back and support where needed. However, we must stress, that the purpose of the email account is not for your child’s class teacher to: mark the work sent in; provide assessment/progress information; or feedback on learning. I’m sure you can understand that it is not appropriate to ask teachers to carry out this part of the job in the current situation.

The email addresses are as follows:

🌈Whole School Home Learning Activity🌈

For the weekend and next week we have set a whole school home learning activity. We would like all children to get creative and create a rainbow picture to be displayed in a window at the front of your house.

Some of you may already be aware that the symbol of the rainbow has become an international symbol for hope during the COVID-19 crisis. Children and families all over the world are displaying pictures of rainbows in the front windows. In this country it has also become a symbol of support for the wonderful work being carried by our key workers and NHS staff.

This home learning task has been posted on each of the Year Group pages for this week. Please visit this with your child for ideas (a blank colouring sheet has been added for you to print off if needed).

A number of you may have already created and displayed rainbows with your children. If this is the case please could you add a reference to Conway School onto your picture to help bring our school community together and share our unity during this challenging time.

We would like as many families as possible to take a photo of their picture and send it in to the new class emails (further information on this will follow later this week). We are going to use the pictures sent in to create a beautiful display when we get back to school. We will also look at displaying some on the website.

Thank you everyone for your continued support. Happy home learning.

Yours sincerely

Ms Yasmin, Mrs Mills and Miss Williams
